FAIRYTALES AS AN EFFECTIVE MEANS TO DEVELOP ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

The paper deals with the problem of searching for effective methods, techniques, and materials to form the foreign language speech competence in English classes at the elementary school level. The subject discussed is highly relevant due to the changing social demands, technological advances and the requirements of the latest Federal State Educational Standards (FSES) of the Russian Federation. The aim of the research is to experimentally prove the effectiveness of the formation foreign language speech competence by means of fairy tales in elementary school. To achieve this aim, the following research methods were used: study, analysis, and critical review of the research papers in the methods of foreign languages teaching and pedagogics fields. The article reveals the essence of the concept "speech competence” as a part of the foreign language communicative competence. It analizes the modern textbook “Spotlight-4”. As a result, a set of fairy tales relevant to the topics in the textbook were selected and introduced; also a complex of the exercises to the texts was designed.
