ASSESSMENT OF THE REAL GROUNDS FOR IMPOSING SANCTIONS AGAINST THE RUSSIAN ECONOMY

Abstract

In the modern world, countries proclaim strong trade relations and cooperation of their economic capacities. However, starting in 2022, such slogans run counter to the real situation in international relations. This is especially reflected in the place that the Russian Federation occupies in the international arena.

Different packages of sanctions, restrictions on the ability of Russian goods to saturate foreign markets – all this has been felt by the Russian economy since 2014, but in the last 3 years the situation has significantly worsened.

This article examines the real reasons why European countries, along with the United States, so easily abandoned trade relations with Russia. Were the sanctions actually imposed to weaken the powerful Russian economy, or did Russia not see a strong trading partner.
