APPLICATION OF MATHEMATICAL METHODS IN SOCIOLOGY

Today, mathematical methods are used in various scientific fields. The application of mathematics in technical and economic sciences is the norm. But in the social sciences it is not so obvious. Despite the convergence of mathematical and social sciences, in other words, the emergence of mathematical sociology, there is still a rejection of mathematical approaches. Many mistakenly believe that mathematical methods give only a quantitative answer, but they can also be used to obtain a qualitative characteristic. Any science must have specific and precise provisions, and if the situation is accurately described, then mathematics begins here.
Definitions of concepts are formulated: a random variable, a random event, the probability of an event. An assessment of the relationship of features using the Pearson distribution is given on the example of a survey of fans of the Michurinsk hockey teams. The calculation of theoretical frequencies is presented, that is, the number of occurrences of each pair of values for absolutely unrelated quantities. The choice of significance level is substantiated. The condition for applying the Pearson distribution and the representativeness of the sample is noted.
A quantitative estimate of the bond strength using the least squares method is presented. A family of linear functions is considered, the coefficients of which are found as a solution to a system of linear equations. An approximation is obtained that allows using the function instead of a set of empirical points and calculating its values outside the area of the initial data.
The application of mathematical methods in sociology is argued.
